We recently installed a display of 51 Revolutionary era and early American
flags at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond, Va. The reproduction flags
go back 118 years and we are please to have them on long-term display for all to
see.
Along these lines, I re-created five of the most recent flags
donated by Society members, one of which was Col. Abraham Buford's Third
Virginia Regiment flag captured by Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton at Waxhaws in
1781. The original flag was one of three captured by Tarleton that remained in
his family until 2006 when they were sold at Sotheby's in NYC for $17.5 million.
You have an illustration of Sheldon's Horse flag
on your site now that was one of the three.

This flag belongs to the Eleventh Virginia Regiment, as carried by a post-Revolutionary company. The colors are listed as "Buff field, silver scrolls and vines, green wreath.""Morgan's Rifle Corps began in July 1775, when 75 men marched to join the army at Cambridge. These men, with their new spiral-grooved rifles, were a terror to the British. In Nov. 1776, Morgan became colonel of the 11th Virginia Regiment, and his old corps was made part of the new unit."
